National Apprenticeship Week: Meet Oliver

This year’s theme for National Apprenticeship Week (6th – 12th February) is ‘Skills for Life’, reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals grow and progress through their chosen industries.

At Tuckwells, we’re proud to be supporting young engineers progress through the agriculture and turf industries as they learn key skills to support a rewarding life-long career.

This week we spoke to Oliver who is doing his Level 3 Agricultural Engineering apprenticeship about how he’s finding his apprenticeship one year in; “I’ve always had an interest in the industry, I’ve been around agriculture my whole life” Oliver tells us.

“The apprenticeship appealed to me because it offers valuable training and qualifications whilst progressing my career through the agricultural industry.”

Over the last year, Oliver has worked on a variety of large machinery from combine harvesters to the smallest of mowers. Recently Oliver has completed his Level 2 in Agricultural Engineering and is now progressing to his last EPA.  Level 2 required him to carry out machinery inspections, engine measurements and battery voltage checks.

Oliver has an interest in classic tractors and older machinery, giving him the option to specialise in this niche later down the line.

Oliver’s advice for those considering an apprenticeship is to “give it a go, you’ll learn a lot from it”.

Tuckwells offer fully accredited John Deere apprenticeships that offer formal qualifications for technician roles in Agriculture, Turf, Parts and Customer Service. These three year long courses are exciting and challenging, aimed at developing the skills necessary for a career in Agriculture and Turf.
